Trust Estates Project Manager

My aim of being the Trust Estates Projects Manager is to help build and maintain a safe, warm and welcoming environment for all students and staff to prosper and be inspired to always be kind, work hard and choose wisely.

I was born and raised in Derby before joining the British Army at 17 and found myself based in Tidworth, Wiltshire for the following 7 years of my life. My role and qualifications were logistical which led directly into projects where I found my passion for my line of work in various countries such as Iraq, Canada and Germany to name a few.

Alongside the hard work and discipline I learnt, there was plenty of time for enjoyment including trips around Europe playing Football, skiing in the south of France and battlefield study excursions. Before leaving the armed forces, I used my resettlement package to gain my Prince 2 project management qualification and volunteered at Turner & Townsend to gain real life experience and help my transition to civilian life.

Following a short period of time lorry driving whilst looking for permanent positions I found a Facilities Coordinator role at East Midlands Chamber of Commerce managing several office buildings across the East Midlands and the Peak District where I gained a lot of experience around property/people management and projects. With COVID thrown into the mix it was a challenging but very rewarding role and gave me some time to reflect on my own personal journey, which is when I decided I wanted to help the wider community within my work.

This found me starting at the Royal School for the Deaf Derby, learning British Sign Language level 1 and completing my NEBOSH along the way. During my tenure, I managed several projects from a Sports hall renovation, roof replacements, asbestos removal, classroom refurbishments, boiler room upgrades and much more whilst building great relationships with staff and suppliers.

I like to think I am approachable, thoughtful and very particular when it comes to planning, in my downtime I like to relax by getting outdoors whether that be kayaking, walking or completing Lego sets on those rainy days (There is just something about a project).
