The de Ferrers Academy is a part of The de Ferrers Trust. We are a Multi Academy Trust currently based in Staffordshire and Derbyshire. We consist of 3 Secondary Academies and 4 Primary Academies.

Following on from 10 years as a specialist Technology College, de Ferrers became an Academy in January 2011. It has grown into a large, split-site, co-educational institution catering for the full range of students from ages 11-18. In 2015 de Ferrers became the first school of The de Ferrers Trust (a Multi Academy Trust).

The Candidate

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Safeguarding Officer to work as part of our safeguarding and pastoral team. Working closely with the Academy Designated Safeguarding Lead, the successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the Academy’s safeguarding functions.  

You will act as an initial point of contact for students, parents and stakeholders presenting with safeguarding concerns; providing advice, guidance and support to ensure that our students safety, health and wellbeing are protected and promoted.  You will be responsible for referring to and working closely with external partners as appropriate. 

We are seeking to recruit a candidate with previous experience of working with children and families, particularly those with complex safeguarding or child protection issues.  A sound knowledge and understanding of relevant child protection legislation and procedures and the ability to apply these effectively in practice is essential.  

The successful candidate must be able to establish effective working relationships with our students, their families and with external stakeholders, utilising their excellent all-round communication skills to do so.  Experience of handling large amounts of sensitive data is equally important, along with excellent record keeping skills and attention to detail, in order to produce reports, take minutes at meetings, and document safeguarding concerns.
